Central Jakarta Releases 10 Fish Fingerlings in Jayakarta Retention Basin

Central Jakarta Mayor, Dhany Sukma and his subordinates released 10 thousand fish fingerlings in Komplek Pangeran Jayakarta's retention basin, Sawah Besar, on Friday (6/4). It was done to commemorate World Environment Day as well as Urban Farming Academy inauguration.

Central Jakarta Government also planted 2,500 trees and vegetables in eight sub-districts, such as Kamaika Guava, Jamblang, and Mango trees.

"Planting trees and hydroponic vegetables are also carried out in conventional land located in Kebon Kosong Urban Village," he added.

World Environment Day, South Jakarta Plants Vegetables and Releases 11 Thousand Fish Fingerlings

Through planting trees and releasing fish fingerlings, he expected residents can be more aware about environmental sustainability since it can support human life, including food security.

"We want all elements within Central Jakarta Government to have a high concern for preserving the environment," he asserted.

For information, World Environment Day which is celebrated every June 5, was started when United Nation held the first conference on human environment in Sweden which later resulted in Stockholm Declaration on June 5, 1972. World Environment Day is celebrated around the world to let people know that nature shouldn't be underestimated and must be protected.
